getting ripped off
People act strange when they feel like they're losing money. Years ago I bought a used sport car. It had a little V8, and was a lot of fun. Buying it turned out to have some drama. The person wanted $3000, but I offered $2800. Well, they had a loan on the car, and needed more to break even. So I said no thanks, but call me if they would take less. About a week later they called and said ok. When I went to buy it there was 450 more miles on it. I commented they put on some miles and they admitted taking a short road trip. No big deal, but they partly did it because they felt I was getting the car cheap. It really wasn't much cheaper, and today I would pay the asking price, but back then it was customary to offer less. They even whined about needing more when we did the deal. People are strange.
I was the only person even looking at it. You think that would thank me for taking it off their hands and thrown in a free chicken dinner.
