 2026 - electric cars cost $40,000 and go 250 miles. They can burst into flames and lock you inside to burn to death. Weird.

Here's what I want. A vehicle similar in size and shape of a 1969 VW square back. It has key entry, manual door locks and manual windows. No wires go from the car into the doors. 2 air bags, seat belts, no computer screen. No radio, USB ports front only, goes 300 miles on a charge. Has backup camera. No internet access or "updates". Air and heater. The only option is a pair of Bose noise cancelling headphones for $200.

Cost: $20,000 

 

Where we've gone wrong: car makers want to charge more, they push Hi-Tech crap. Cars are made to transport people, they don't need to drive themselves. A general purpose humanoid robot can drive for me.
