my wife and God

 My wife is a Christian, but she could be really ugly at times. After we were married 15 years she started a series of illnesses that eventually killed her. It was interesting that as she neared death she became gentle and kind. If she got a little bit better, she quickly reverted to the mean person. Why didn't God talk to her directly instead of killing her with unrelated illnesses?
