 This instantiation of existence appears to be an attempt to salvage any remaining souls that will go into the eternal kingdom. This wasn't necessary, as there are angels that have already proven worthy of the kingdom, but God did this anyway. We are all evil and mostly end up in the lake of fire, but a few make it.
