Hezekiah's misguided request
Hezekiah prays for longer life, and received it. But old age is miserable now and always has been. What did he expect of old age? Blindness, decreased energy and capacity, and pain. Loss of bodily functions and heat control. Moses is the only person that went strong until he climbed his last mountain and God killed him. Elijah was whisked away by a flaming chariot. Others died in battle or were murdered, but old age is horrible.
The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness:
[10] I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years.
My wife was spared old age, but died of kidney failure, which was also horrible. This is sick.
