stay comfortable
For the last several years I kept my apartments as cold as possible in the winter. It was miserable. Wearing sweaters and hats indoors. Sleeping under multiple blankets and wool blankets. Getting up cold in the middle of the night to take a pee. it was miserable. Did I mention it was miserable.
Then the clouds parted, and I turned the temperature up to 74° f. It was warm. It wasn't miserable. At times it was 25 below zero fahrenheit, but inside it was toasty warm. I was toasty warm. My bill skyrocketed. But it didn't matter. It was almost worth going hungry just to be warm. In fact it was worth moving away to a warm place and just being warm. But that wasn't necessary because it was warm where I was. In fact when I went outside it didn't seem that cold anymore. Now I didn't go outside unless it was about 20° Fahrenheit. But even so I could get the mail and go get groceries and go for short drives, and occasionally even fill up the car. Life was much better when it was warm inside. There's some sort of incredible message here for all of us.
