for God so loved the world

 Maybe God is talking about the entire creation. Because it doesn't look like God loves Earth in Genesis chapter 3. God curses the planet in a horrible way. Then God slaughters millions of people over the next several thousand years. It hardly seems like love, unless it's extremely tough love. And God keeps doing a half ass job and then promising things are going to be fantastic someday. Well we're waiting for that someday God, bring it.
